Remembering Debra McClinton

The other day I was organizing and cleaning my collection of promos and I came across this one from Debra McClinton. In case you didn't know her, Debra was one of the most amazing photographers, EVER!

Debra's beautiful work graced the pages of Yoga Journal on many occasions. I was fortunate to have worked with her on a few shoots, and she always brought so much energy, creativity and excitement. I remember the last shoot we did together, shortly before she died, was one of the craziest shoots I've ever done. We were on a location (a private garden in Marin) that had given us a very limited amount of time to shoot there. We got all set and started shooting and shooting but something was not clicking for her. She wasn't happy with the light, she wasn't happy with the wardrobe, she wanted to remove branches from a tree! I just wanted to get the shot and move on, but she just kept trying and trying. Just as we were about to get kicked out of the place she got these shots that totally captured the moment we had been trying to get all morning. I hate to admit that at first I was very frustrated but when she sent me the files, I was beyond happy!  Those last shots really brought the story to life. And that to me was Debra, not happy until she got the perfect shot.

Debra's work was featured in many magazines including RealSimple, Brides, Wired, People, Country Living, Time, Fortune and lots more.  One of my favorite projects she did was the RealSimple Weddings magazine. The pictures were just so gorgeous!

Sweet Promo

Literally the sweetest promo I have ever received! It's from illustrator Hudson Black (she illustrated the cute label). I totally appreciate this promo because, not only was I running low on honey, it did exactly what a promo should do: grabbed my attention. Upon opening the mysterious package, I immediately went to her website to check out her work, and now every time I put honey on my tea I'll be thinking about her. Genius!

Anyway, I don't know much about Hudson, but I enjoy the style of her illustrations: whimsical and soft with beautiful textures and line work. Definitely someone I want to keep my eye on. To see more of her work, click here.

It's in the bag!

Isn't this bag cute?  It's the latest promo from Gerald & Cullen Rapp, an illustration agency representing an amazing group of talented artists.  The illustration in the bag is by Brad Yeo, and I think it totally makes the bag. I can't wait to go to the farmers' market and put all my fresh fruit and veggies in it.

Always in Fashion - A stock house promo

I love getting really cool promos whether from a stock house, an illustrator or a photographer. This one here is a promo from Corbis from a few years ago. My boss recently gave it to me because she knows how much I love stuff like this. The promo is called "Always in Fashion", and it's a set of 9 cards featuring vintage fashion photography from the Condé Nast archive which, as you can imagine, includes hundreds of images from publications such as Vogue, Vanity Fair and Glamour.

Jared Andrew Schorr - a CUT above the rest

A couple of weeks ago I received this promo from illustrator Jared Andrew Schoor. Jared is represented by one of my favorite agencies, heflinreps, so I was already familiar with his work. However, it wasn't until I opened this fun personalized promo that he really grabbed my attention. In this day and age of mass-mailings, the fact that he took the time to hand write the envelope and then precisely cut my name out inside, shows me someone that really loves what he does, and I can't wait 'til we have the opportunity to work together.

Most of Jared's work, made from cut paper, are small pieces of art full of whimsy, fun and so much detail, that you really need to spend some time looking at them to appreciate the amount of work that went into them. His colorful work has appeared in the New York Times, Good Magazine, WIRED, and more.
