Exciting News! Award Winning Illustrations

Yesterday, it was announced that Yoga Journal, the magazine I work for, won the 2010 Maggie award for Best Health & Fitness Magazine. The Maggies are presented by the Western Publishing Association (WPA) to individuals and companies whose work, in a wide variety of publishing categories, is deemed “The Best in the West." So while not as prestigious as the National Magazine Awards or SPD, it is still a pretty big honor.

But most exciting to me was, that a feature that I art directed and designed also won for Best Series of Editorial Illustrations. These winning illustrations are from one of my favorite illustrators, Marta Antelo. If you remember, I featured her here a while ago. This was Marta's and my first collaboration, and I'm so excited that she agreed to take on this assignment. Her illustrations really brought this sweet story to life, and I'm glad the voting members of the WPA recognized that.

Photographer of the Week - Lisa Cohen

Lisa Cohen is a frequent contributor to Vogue Living and Donna Hay (two of my all-time favorite magazines). Her gorgeous work never fails to capture me, and it makes me wish that I worked for a magazine in Australia, London or New York, so that I would have the opportunity to work with her.

Before becoming a full-time photographer, Lisa spent part of her life working in London as a stylist, producer and art director for interior and lifestyle photo shoots. She was also the Decoration Editor for British House & Garden. Ultimately, Lisa decided that she would like to be the person behind the camera in charge of creating the final image. A decision, I for one, is glad she did.
